How is it already August?
It feels like we were just making summer plans, and suddenly back-to-school season is creeping in, evenings are getting a little shorter, and fall decor is starting to appear in stores.
But summer isn't over yet!
There are still a few weeks left to enjoy warm evenings, fresh Idaho produce, outdoor events, and those simple summer traditions we wait all year for.
So instead of trying to cram everything into the final weeks of the season, we've narrowed it down to 10 things to do in August before summer ends in the Treasure Valley

Pick Up Fresh Idaho Peaches
If there's one flavor that screams late summer in Idaho, it's a perfectly ripe peach.
August is a great time to watch local orchards, U-pick farms, farmers markets, and roadside stands for fresh peaches.
Make a morning of picking your own, grab a box from a local grower, or bring some home for peach cobbler, homemade jam, grilled peaches, or simply eating over the kitchen sink because they're that juicy.
Make it an adventure: Stop somewhere you've never visited before and grab a few other seasonal goodies while you're there.

Catch the Last of the Summer Flowers
Sunflower season doesn't last forever!
Late summer is a beautiful time to visit local flower farms and sunflower fields while blooms are still around.
Bring the kids, plan a date, or simply use it as an excuse to update those family photos before fall.

Have One More Water Day
Before swimsuits get packed away for the season, squeeze in one more water day.

August sunsets deserve their own spot on the list.
Pack a blanket, grab your favorite takeout, and find somewhere with a view.
The Boise Depot, Camel's Back, Kathryn Albertson Park, Lucky Peak, and many open areas throughout the Treasure Valley offer beautiful places to watch the sky change.
Make it special: Put the phones away for a few minutes and actually watch the sun go down.
Stop at a Roadside Farm Stand
This might be one of the most Idaho things you can do in August.
If you spot a handwritten sign advertising:

FRESH TOMATOES 🍅
...pull over.
August is harvest season, and some of the best local produce can be found at little farm stands scattered throughout the Treasure Valley.
Take everything home and turn it into dinner that evening.
Catch an Outdoor Concert or Community Event
There are still plenty of summer evenings left for live music.
Outdoor concerts, community gatherings, farmers markets, and local events continue throughout August across Boise and the surrounding communities.
Pack a lawn chair or blanket, grab dinner nearby, and enjoy an evening outside before our summer event season winds down.

For many Treasure Valley families, the Western Idaho Fair feels like the unofficial finale of summer.
The fair returns to Expo Idaho later this August with rides, animals, exhibits, entertainment, concerts and, of course, an unreasonable amount of fair food.
Whether you go every year or haven't been in ages, it's one of those classic local traditions worth experiencing at least once.

Take One Spontaneous Summer Drive
You don't necessarily need reservations or an elaborate itinerary.
Pick a direction and go.
Drive toward Idaho City.
Spend the afternoon in Emmett.
Explore somewhere around the Snake River.
Head toward the mountains.
Visit a Treasure Valley town you normally drive straight through.
Grab snacks, make a playlist, and see where the day takes you.
Sometimes the best summer memories happen when there wasn't much of a plan in the first place.
You Don't Have to Do Everything
Summer bucket lists can be fun, but they can also start to feel like another checklist we're supposed to complete.
Consider this your permission slip not to do all ten things.

The goal isn't to squeeze every possible activity into August. It's to enjoy the little bit of summer we still have.
Make the Most of Where You Live
One of our favorite things about the Treasure Valley is how easy it is to turn an ordinary day into a little adventure.
Sometimes it's a big event or a day trip. Other times it's grabbing ice cream after dinner, stopping for fresh corn on the way home, or sitting somewhere beautiful to watch the sunset.
